How It Started
California Design Den has always been a family business whose core values were, and continue to be, grounded in quality, trust, and affordability. In 2006, Deepak and Rohit Mehrotra began manufacturing textiles in family-owned and operated facilities, becoming premier manufacturing partners for leading brands and retailers across the U.S. and Canada. In 2017, the brothers formed California Design Den, a direct-to-consumer brand, with a simple mission: Create affordable, natural, high-quality linens that help people sleep better.
Putting Down Roots
Our California-based design team handles everything from product performance to packaging, and leverages real-time reviews to create our unique, customer-first business model. By utilizing family-owned manufacturing facilities and cotton collected from small, family-operated farms, we’re able to oversee operations directly and pass on any savings straight to our customers. Quality and consistency are woven into our process at every step, both at home and abroad.
Cultivating Quality
Natural fibers have the ability to make a large impact on not only your sleep, but your overall health. Every product we ship is mindfully manufactured in family-run facilities we own, operate, and manage. Each and every plant-based fiber we work with meets strict certification standards and undergoes thread count verification for optimal quality control.
Our Sheeting Process
Affordable doesn’t mean cheap. By owning our production facilities and offering online-only retail, we cut ties with the traditional supply chain and removed all of the middlemen that come with it (sourcing agents, distributors, wholesalers, brick-and-mortar sales reps). We utilize a cost-effective third-party warehouse based in the U.S. for shipping support, and keep our marketing costs intentionally low, so that we can pass on the savings directly to our customers.
Our product team creates all the designs at our headquarters in California. Customer feedback is regularly analyzed and crucial to the design process. All products, including our sheets, are designed to last and withstand years of wear and washing.
All sheeting is packaged in boxes made from recycled paper, without plastic. The only time we use plastic is to vacuum seal our bulkier inserts, to reduce weight and our overall carbon footprint while shipping.
All cotton (excluding Egyptian) is sourced from small, family-owned farms in South India. We purchase raw fibers of the highest quality and rigorously test them throughout each phase of product development.
Our organic cotton products are GOTS certified. Our base cotton is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certified. Our thread counts and country of origin can easily be authenticated.
Each step of production happens in our family-owned and operated facility, located in Thane, Maharashtra, India. Owning this step in the process allows us to reduce costs and cut out third-party middlemen from our supply chain strategy. This location alone supports over 500 families and follows strict workplace guidelines and safety protocols that reduce fatigue and injury.
