Protect & Style. High-quality, durable cotton covers featuring easy-to-use button closures and interior ties to keep your comforter perfectly in place.
What is a duvet cover and how is it different from a comforter or insert?
A duvet cover is a protective, washable shell that slips over your comforter or duvet insert - just like a pillowcase covers a pillow.
The comforter or insert provides the warmth; the duvet cover provides the style, softness, and easy washability. It helps your bedding stay clean longer and lets you change the look of your bed without replacing the whole comforter.
What’s included in a duvet cover set?
Each California Design Den duvet cover set includes 1 duvet cover and 2 matching pillow shams (1 sham for Twin size). We also sell just a duvet cover as well ( no pillow shams). The insert or comforter is sold separately, so you can choose the weight or fill you prefer - cotton, down, or down-alternative - for your ideal comfort level.
How should I size the cover relative to my insert?
For the best drape and fill, choose a duvet cover that matches your insert size. As the comforter / insert sizes are NOT standard in the US, please do measure yours and compare it to our duvet cover size before buying. A few inches of plus or minus will work, but anything more will not be a fit. A snug fit gives a smoother, more tailored bed; a slightly oversized insert creates a lofty, hotel-style finish.
What types of closures do you offer?
California Design Den duvet covers use a button closure only, designed to keep your insert secure without catching or snagging.
Each style is finished for easy use - understated, neat, and durable through frequent washing.
How do you keep the insert from shifting inside the cover?
Our duvet covers include corner ties on the inside to anchor the insert at all four corners.
These ties keep your comforter from bunching or sliding, so the cover stays evenly filled through the night.
Will duvet covers shrink, fade, or wrinkle?
Our cotton duvet covers are lab-tested to resist shrinking, fading, and pilling.
A slight first-wash tightening is natural and already accounted for in the cut.
Tumble dry low and remove promptly for a smooth finish - no special care or ironing required.
How often should I wash a duvet cover?
Since the cover protects your insert, it only needs washing every 2-4 weeks, depending on use.
If you sleep without a flat sheet, wash it more often - about every one week for freshness.
Machine wash warm, tumble dry low, and avoid bleach for the longest life.
Can I use the duvet cover by itself on warm nights?
Yes. It will feel like 2 layers of flat sheets on you!!
Our 400-thread-count cotton sateenweave is soft and breathable enough to use as a lightweight blanket during warmer months.
It’s a great way to simplify your bedding while staying cool and comfortable.
Are interior corner ties or linings included?
Yes. All duvet covers feature interior corner ties to secure your insert.
We don’t use synthetic linings; the fabric is 100% long-staple cotton, breathable and gentle on skin.
What is a duvet cover? How do I use it?
A duvet cover is a removable fabric shell that encases a duvet insert or comforter.
To use it:
Turn the cover inside out.
Tie or clip the insert corners to the cover’s corner ties.
Roll or shake gently to flip the cover right-side-out with the insert inside.
Fasten the closure at the bottom.
It’s an easy system for keeping your bedding fresh - wash the cover, not the insert.
Can you put a comforter in a duvet cover?
Yes. That’s exactly how duvet covers are designed to be used.
Slip your comforter or insert inside, tie it to the interior corner ties, and close the buttons. It adds softness, protects your comforter from wear, and makes laundering simple.
How do you put on a duvet cover?
The simplest way is the “roll” or “burrito” method:
Lay the duvet cover inside out on your bed, with the opening at the foot.
Place your insert on top, aligning corners and tying the ties.
Starting at the head, roll both layers together toward the opening.
Pull the cover opening around the roll, zip or button closed, then unroll. Your duvet will be perfectly placed.
